Coleton Fishacre in September-3.jpg
Coleton Fishacre, south Devon, photographed in early September. This early 20th century Arts and Crafts National Trust property and garden was once the home of D'Oyly Carte family. The herbaceous borders are at their peak in September with late flowering plants such as asters, penstemons, salvias and chrysanthemums. Pink and white Japanese anemones bloom in the Rill Garden, while autumn flowering Cyclamen adorn the woodland floor nearby. Elsewhere there are terraces in front of the house with hot planting, and a paths that lead to spectacular views of the sea, where the woodland is planted with exotic, jungle-like species, including palms, bamboos and tree ferns.
