Holehird Gardens, Cumbria, is home to a national collection of Daboecia cantabrica (St. Dabeoc’s Heath). It is the least known member of the Ericaceae family and native to the British Isles. Daboecia is similar to Erica, or bell heather, but has a more upright habit and much larger bells. The Holehird Daboecia collection is located in two large summer heather beds above the main lawn. They are best seen in late summer and autumn. Photographed in October.
