Penshurst Place, near Tonbridge, Kent, It is the ancestral home of the Sidney family, and was the birthplace of the great Elizabethan poet, courtier and soldier, Sir Philip Sidney. It is one of the most complete surviving examples of a 14th-century building in England. The Elizabethan gardens comprise a number of rooms, including a parterre, an orchard, a rose garden, a pond and fountain and borders designed by Lanning Roper.
