Plas Newydd, Denbighshire, was the home of the Ladies of Llangollen, Lady Eleanor Butler and Miss Sarah Ponsonby from 1780 to 1829. The pair were celebrated in Regency times and they received many famous visitors such as Wordsworth, Sir Walter Scott and the Duke of Wellington. Overlooking the property are the ruins of the medieval fortress Castell Dinas Bran.
