Plas Newydd, Denbighshire, was the home of the Ladies of Llangollen, Lady Eleanor Butler and Miss Sarah Ponsonby. The pair, who lived at the property from 1780 to 1829, were celebrated in Regency times and they received many famous visitors such as Wordsworth, Sir Walter Scott and the Duke of Wellington. Overlooking the house are the ruins of the medieval fortress Castell Dinas Bran.
